Merchant of Venice

These days I saw the shitfaced shakespeares merchant of venice. The shit faced spin seemed like a good idea. It means one of the main actors had to drink before and during the show and was given some leeway in their role. There is a mistress of ceremony that provides the actor some drinks during the show and takes care things don’t go out of hand.

It didn’t play out that well. A little slapstick was fun. Humour is more than cursing on stage - it just is not that outstanding - maybe for Americans. Anyway the fooling around and raunchy got boring quickly. The play itself is a bit of a complicated choice - being so anti-Semitic. They always stayed on the political correct side though. I just was hoping on a more modern interpretation.

2018 Life Science Meeting

I will present a poster there. My poster session is on Thursday, at 3pm.

Keep talking and nobody explodes

At the current HUMBLE INDIE BUNDLE 19 they include the party game Keep talking and nobody explodes. One can get it the next 10 days for about 5€. Basically one sits in front of the computer which simulates a bomb, the rest of the group has the bomb manual and is not allowed to see the bomb. They need to talk the one on the bomb trough defusal.

I couldn’t resist. Looking forward to try it at the next party. Before I was watching some Youtube videos and it looks great fun.

Layout changes

I played around removing all the JavaScript dependencies of the hugo-academic template. I feel bootstrap and jQuery have little reason to be on such a simple site. By now I think I deviated from the original theme to no longer need it in the powered by section. Anyway should you note something amiss - let me know.

More Hitchhikers Guide

The BBC aired a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: Hexagonal Phase. One can listen to it even out of country for a month. Stephen Hawkings voicebox did speak the part of the guide.

Der kleine Hey

I had a dental operation and have problems articulating. I recalled learning with “Der kleine Hey”. I couldn’t locate it in my library. I was positively surprised it’s in the public domain by now. The 1884 edition is on archive.org: Hey It’s well worth checking out if you want to work on your (German) pronunciation. Now - let’s see how soon I can talk again.

pretty git exercises

I probably mentioned I use git for managing my code. Even in the simplistic way I know - already helpful. Like in this xkcd It is not easy finding good exercises to improve. I got pointed to learngitbranching. It looks polished and the exercises are short enough to do between. Just somehow I overlooked the commandos reset and undo to restart the exercised.

Euclidea

Having some extra time? Euclidea teaches euclidean geometry using puzzles. Only working with compass and straightedge. Too long time I practiced these.

Github pages

Now this site is on github pages. I had already repos on github for some time and trusted it - only private repos I keep on other places. But mostly I was missing some features a bplaced so now the move. Mostly I like that I can now post new content via git so I just need to transfer new posts and not the whole site. That now the site is https secured is a nice boon.

Kerbal Space Program

These days I started up Kerbal Space Program. It is a space game where you construct your own vehicles and explore the solar system. As physics games go it is amazing. Unless you carefully plan out maneuvers they will lead to disaster - which is often also hilarious to watch play out. Even getting into orbit is a challenge in the beginning. My first Mun landing without breaking stuff. The only critic point would be that one needs to learn about most concepts outside the game.
